Conditions of Entry

Ocean Spa pool rules apply to all patrons and exist to ensure all visitors enjoy our facilities without being negatively impacted by others’ behaviour.

Napier City Council in its sole discretion may refuse entry to, or evict, any person deemed to be inappropriately dressed or behaved or in breach of these rules.

General Requirements

  • Patrons must follow all the instructions given by lifeguards and staff and refrain from behaviour that could cause injury, offense or harm to other participants or property. Spitting, language or behaviour that may be considered indecent, obscene, disorderly or improper is prohibited.
  • To be eligible for discounted rates you must supply appropriate photo identification at the time of purchase.
  • While every effort is made to provide a safe and secure environment, users enter the pool and surrounds at their own risk. Napier City Council take no responsibility for any injury or accident you incur while using the facility or for any damage or loss to personal effects.
  • In the event of any sickness or accident occurring while you’re in the facility qualified medical attention may be obtained at your expense.
  • No commercially prepared food is permitted within the premises. Glassware is prohibited in or around pool areas. No food or drink shall be consumed in the pools. Chewing gum is prohibited anywhere in the facility. Alcohol is not permitted in the facility or anywhere on the grounds outside of specified areas covered by the café license.
  • No unauthorised commercial activity, advertising or recruiting for business may take place on any Napier City Council premises.
  • Goods and services purchased are done so on a firm sale basis. Refunds will not be issued for any change of mind service. We will honour our obligations under the Consumer Guarantees Act. Gift Vouchers and Concession cards are valid for 12 months from the date of sale. Vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash and change will not be given.

Children, Parent & Caregiver Requirements

  • To enter our facility children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by a caregiver 16 years or older.
  • Children under 5 must be within arm’s reach of a caregiver at all times. Children 10 years and under must always be actively supervised in the water by a caregiver 16 years and older as per below Adult to Child ratios.
  • The following Adult to Child ratios must be observed at all times:
    • Under 5 years – 1 adult may supervise a maximum of two under 5’s
    • 5 to 10 years – 1 adult may supervise a maximum of four 5 to 10 year olds.
    • Mixed ages – 1 adult may supervise a maximum of 1 under 5 year old, and three 5 to 10 year olds.
  • Parents and caregivers are responsible for the appropriate behaviour and conduct of the children in their care. You will ensure that your child complies with these pool rules as applicable to them.

Photography

  • Photography and digital recording of any kind is prohibited inside the pools, sauna and steam room, and changing areas.
  • Napier City Council centres are public places and you may be photographed for the purpose of marketing the facility. If your image is captured it may be used in marketing material by Napier City Council or an agency or media outlet. Napier City Council will obtain written consent for any images that focuses on an individual.

Smoking and Vaping

  • Smoking and vaping is not permitted within the facility or anywhere on the grounds.

Animals

  • Animals are not permitted without prior approval with the exception of registered service dogs.

Swimwear and Clothing

  • Appropriate swimwear is to be worn at all times. This includes togs, swim shorts and rash tops. Singlets, denim, boxer shorts, bras or camisoles, are not permitted. All swimwear must be clean and tidy. All children 3 years and under must be wearing a waterproof and a firm fitting swim nappy, and togs over the top.
  • Bandanas, patches or any other displays of gang affiliation are not permitted. Gang related tattoos must be covered at all times.

Cleanliness

  • Soap, hair products and cleansers must only be used in the designated shower areas. Any substances that may result in the pool becoming discoloured, rendered unpleasant, turbid or unfit for proper use are prohibited.
  • Users are required to maintain Napier City Council's high standard of cleanliness and the good order of its facilities. You will be responsible for all damage you cause, whether directly or indirectly, to equipment or facilities.

Facility Requirements

  • Running, jumping, manu, bombing, diving, play fighting and pushing is prohibited in and around pool areas unless explicitly stated otherwise. Sports equipment is not permitted in the pool without staff approval.
  • Sauna users must sit on their own towel or mat for hygiene reasons while in the sauna. Water, Oil or any other liquid is not to be dispersed by customers around the sauna or on sauna stones. Children under 18 years are not permitted to use the sauna or steam room.
  • Patrons are required to please consider their own personal hygiene and shower before entering any pool. A person with open sores, wounds or skin infections may be refused entry to, or evicted from, the pools for public hygiene reasons. Swimming 2 weeks after suffering from diahorrea is prohibited.

Use of this facility is subject to these rules, any relevant Napier City Council policies, local bylaws, industry body standards, and New Zealand law.
